Junior Associate Competition

We are looking for a talented Junior Associate (1 to 3 years' experience) to join our growing Competition practice in Belgium.

 

You will be involved in a broad range of international competition law matters, including merger control, foreign direct investment (FDI) screening, Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) matters, behavioral competition law, investigations and state aid matters.

Main duties and responsibilities

 

As a Junior Associate within the Competition team in our Brussels office, you will work on a wide range of competition law matters for multinational corporations, private equity sponsors, financial investors and public sector clients, both domestic and cross-border.

 

In collaboration with the Partner and senior lawyers, you will take on real responsibility early and develop your skills as a competition lawyer in an international environment.

 

Your role will involve:

  • Assisting on merger control and foreign investment (FDI) filings before the European Commission and national authorities
  • Advising on Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) matters
  • Conducting legal research and preparing tailored competition law advice for clients
  • Assisting clients in behavioural and commercial competition law matters
  • Supporting clients in competition investigations, information requests and market inquiries
  • Advising on state aid matters
  • Coordinating with foreign counsel and other DLA Piper offices on multijurisdictional projects
  • Drafting notifications, submissions, client memoranda and regulatory filings
  • Collaborating closely with the team to discuss legal strategy and client solutions

 

About you

 

Candidates should be able to demonstrate that they have/are:

  • Qualified to practise as a lawyer in Belgium, or working towards qualification
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in competition law
  • Experience or strong interest in merger control, FDI, FSR, investigations and behavioural competition law
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • High work standards with a strong service orientation
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills
  • Excellent legal skills and an analytical mind, with attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise and efficiently manage complex matters
  • Well organised, proactive, flexible, pragmatic, social and a team player
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced international environment
  • Accuracy, confidentiality and punctuality are second nature to you
