Junior Associate Finance & Projects

We are looking for a talented Junior Associate (1 to 3 years' experience) to join our growing Finance & Projects practice in Belgium.

 

You will be involved in a broad range of domestic and cross-border financing transactions, with a particular focus on leveraged finance (including acquisition finance, real estate finance, club deals, syndicated and unitranche financings) and project finance, including infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

Main duties and responsibilities

 

 

As a Junior Associate within the Finance & Projects team in our Brussels office, you will work on a wide range of financing transactions for banks, alternative lenders, sponsors and corporate borrowers, both domestic and cross-border. You will be closely involved in all stages of a transaction, from structuring and drafting through negotiation and closing.

 

In collaboration with the Partner and senior lawyers, you will take on real responsibility early and develop your skills as a finance lawyer in an international environment.

 

Your role will involve:

 

  • Drafting and reviewing finance documentation, including facility agreements, security documents and intercreditor arrangements
  • Assisting on leveraged finance transactions such as acquisition finance, real estate finance, club deals, syndicated and unitranche financings
  • Working on project finance matters, including infrastructure and renewable energy projects
  • Conducting legal research and preparing tailored advice for clients
  • Coordinating with foreign counsel and other DLA Piper offices on cross-border transactions
  • Managing closing processes, conditions precedent and post-closing follow-up
  • Collaborating closely with the team to discuss transaction structures and strategy

 

 

About you

 

 

Candidates should be able to demonstrate that they have/are :

  • Obtained a Belgian master's degree in law, with a solid academic track record
  • Qualified to practice as a lawyer in Belgium
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in banking and finance, ideally with exposure to leveraged or project finance
  • A native Dutch or French speaker with excellent command of English; knowledge of the other national language is an asset
  • High work standards with a strong service orientation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent legal skills and an analytical mind, with attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise and efficiently deal with complex files
  • Well organised, proactive, flexible, pragmatic, social and a team player
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced international environment
  • Accuracy, confidentiality and punctuality are second nature to you
  • Keen on working in a dynamic, demanding yet rewarding context
